I have the honour to inform Your Lordship that in connection with the development of the Kowloon Tong Garden City
area, the sum of $1,500 was inserted in the estimates for 1929,
Head 31, sub head 102, for a small temporary market. The rapid
development of the district and the representations of the
residents there lead me to believe however, that a need exists for
a larger and permanent market in that locality.
The matter of design and cost has been carefully
considered by the Director of Public Works in consultation with
local residents and the Sanitary Board, and plans have now been
approved by the Public Works Committee of the Legislative Council.
The cost of the amended scheme will amount to
$10,000.
No provision has been made in the estimates for
1930, but I am prepared to recommend a supplementary vote for this
amount early in 1950 subject to Your Lordship's approval.
ur,I
If you concur, I should be glad to receive Your
Lordship's approval by telegram so that the work may be put in
hand with the least possible delay. I might add that I am
satisfied that the rentals to be obtained for the stalls in this
market will prove remunerative.
