the Presiding Examiner shortly before the examination by registered post, and strict precautions will be taken to ensure that the secrecy of the examination papers in main- tained. The Presiding Examiner will be responsible for the safe custody of the examina- tion papers while in her care, and the box mentioned above will be provided with a lock and key in order that the papers may be kept locked up until the commencement of that portion of the examination to which they relate. The packets of papers will be opened in the presence of the candidates for each portion of the examination.
2. The dates for the oral and practical examination will be a matter of arrangement at each examination.
Each candidate will be notified as to the place and date, and if possible, the hour when she will have to present herself. This notification will be given to the candidates on the first day of the written examination.
3. At the conclusion of each period of the written examination the Presiding Examiner will collect the answer books and forward them to the Board's office. Here they will be checked and marked off on the appropriate registers and dispatched to the Examiners for marking, together with the necessary mark sheets. When returned by the Examiners the answer books will be checked to see that every question has been marked, and the marks correctly added and transferred to the mark sheet. These marks, together with the marks returned by the Examiners taking part in the oral and practical parts of the examinations will then be collected and entered on large mark sheets, and the examination results prepared from them. All cases in which there is any doubt, or in which the candidate falls just below the pass mark will be referred to the Examiners for their decision.
4. The Pass List will be submitted by the examining body to the Director of Medical and Sanitary Services for approval, and when approved will be published. Each candi- date will be notified of the result of her examination, and a certificate that she has been admitted to the Register will be forwarded to each successful candidate at the Final Examination.

SYLLABUS
of Subjects for Examination for the Certificate of General Nursing.
PREFACE.
A nurse presenting herself for examination may be questioned on any of the sub- jects contained in this Syllabus, and in the Nurse's chart attached to it.
It is intended that the examination shall be of a simple and practical character.
The examination will be divided into two parts. The first, or Preliminary Exami- nation, will cover the subjects of Elementary Anatomy, Physiology and Hygiene, and will be taken by all nurses alike for the General Register. It is expected that the train- ing for this period will as a rule last for 24 months, but the examination may be taken at any time after one year's training is completed.
The second, or Final Examination, for the General Part of the Register will cover the remaining subjects of this Syllabus and those included in the Nurse's Chart
attached.
