My Lord,
RECEIVED
2 3 DEC 1929
COL. OFFICE
GOVERNMENT HOUSE,
HONGKONG,
19th November, 1929.
3
I have the honour to invite Your Lordship's
attention to Sir Claud Severn's despatch No.86 of 18th March,
1919, on the subject of proposed assistance to be given by
Government to two girls' schools belonging to the Church
Missionary Society in this Colony.
2.
The proposals in that despatch, which were
sanctioned by the late Lord Milner in his telegram dated
22nd July, 1919, included the resumption by Government of the
Remaining Portion of Inland Lot No.1096, "as the presence
of the school close to the hostels of the University, and
the houses of the University staff, was considered
undesirable".
3.
After acquisition by Government this property was for some time let to a boys' school (St. Stephen's) which was temporarily in need of accommodation. This school has now found a suitable site on Stanley Peninsula and on the property becoming again vacant the authorities of the University applied to this Government to have it incorporated in the University grounds, into which as will be seen from the accompanying plan it makes an undesirable incursion..
THE RIGHT HONOURABLE
LORD PASSFIELD,
