Ferry Piers (Western), $40,000. The existing Eastern St. wooden pier is too small to meet the demands of the Western Ferry Services and the vote provides for a larger and more up-to-date concrete pier.

Reclamation of S.W. corner of Causeway Bay for road widening, $10,000.--Yee Woo Street is to be widened to 100 ft. and it is necessary for this section of Causeway Bay to be filled in to give the required width at this point.

PUBLIC HEALTH AND BUILDINGS ORDINANCE.

Various Resumptions for road widening schemes approved by Govern- ment as rebuilding occurs, $75,000.-As the construction of old buildings takes place advantage is taken to resume portions of property required to permit of road widening. This vote provides the necessary funds for this purpose.

Resumption of Royal Naval Canteen on M. L. 65, s. B., $50,000.- The Royal Naval Canteen is required to be removed in order to link up Queen's Road Central with the new 100 ft. road on the Praya East Re- clamation. It is hoped that the building of the new Royal Naval Canteen will be commenced next year, when the sum of $50,000 will be required in part payment of the compensation payable for the removal of the old building.

Sailors' Home, West Point, (2nd instalment) $180,000-The Trustees of the Sailors' Home and the Missions to Seamen propose to amalgamate the two undertakings. As part of the scheme of reconstruction, the Secretary of State has approved the resumption of the present site for the Sailors' Home at West Point M.L. 187A-for $800,000 plus a sum of $100,000 for the surrender of all claims to the promised site in Kowloon. The total payments to be spread over a period of five years. It is ex- pected that the first payment will be made in 1929.

BUILDINGS.

Hung Hom-New Government Store, $50,000.-This work was com- menced in 1929. Only about $10,000 can be expended during 1929, and the balance is required for 1930.

Tsim Sha Tsui Fire Station, Extension to Quarters, $1,000.-Reten- tion money.

Kowloon Hospital Maternity Block-Site formation and Building, $120,000.-A sum of $60,000 was provided for site formation in 1929, but it is anticipated that only $40,000 will be spent on this work during the year. The difference is included in the amount provided for site forma- tion and building in the 1930 Estimates.

Public Latrine at Dock Lane, Latrine and Bathhouse, $7,000.-For completion of work started in 1929.

Public Latrine and Bathhouse, Argyle Street, Mong Kok Tsui, $15,000. The revised Estimate for this work is $20,000 of which $5,000 will be spent in 1929, and the work will be completed in 1930.
