be likely to get some man like a Deputy Treasurer
in another Colony who would be going on to a larger
Treasurership later. That wouldanyhow be the sort
we want rather than the older man who would
serve out his time in the Hong Kong post, and
possibly in the course of it fail to work
satisfactorily with the Financial Secretary to
Government.

to decide on this matter of the Deputy Treasurer's
future before going on with the selection of
an officer for the vacancy, and I suggest that
we need not consider the selection of a Chief
Accountant until the Governor can obtain the
considered opinion of the new treasurer on
