(Ministry of Foreign Affairs)
THE REPUBLIC OF CHINA. NANKING.

Aide-Memoire.
Recently Mr. Hu Mien was appointed Director of the Chinese
Telegraph office in Hong Kong. Up to date, however, his predecessor,
Mr. Chiang Hsiao-lu, has refused to vacate his post and hand over
his duties.
Dr. M.T.Z.Tyau, upon instructions of this Ministry, called on
Mr. Hewlett some ten days age with the request that he move sir
Miles Lampson to telegraph to the Hong Kong Government with the
suggestion that Mr. Hu, the newly-appointed Director, should be
enabled to assume his office.
The Kinister for Foreign Affairs of the National Government
will greatly appreciate if Sir Miles will accede to this request and,
using his good offices, invoke the assistance of the Hong Kong Gov-
ernment so that, on the one hand, Mr. Hu Mien will be able to function
properly as the Director of the Chinese Telegraph Office in Hongkong
and, on the otherhand, Dr. Chiang Hsiao-lu will be prevented from
interposing obstacles and obstructions in Mr. Hu's efficient discharge
of his duties.
