My Lord,

With reference to my secret despatch,

dated the 28th of June, 1929, concerning the

Chinese Telegraph Office in Hong Kong, I have the

honour to inform Your Lordship that on the 6th of

August Sir Miles Lampson telegraphed to me that he

had been informed by the Chinese Minister for

Foreign Affairs of the death of Mr. Wu Kin, and that

the Chinese Minister for Communications had designated

Mr. Lu Chih-yn to be Superintendent of the Hong Kong

office. Sir Miles added:- "I trust that this

appointment will be agreeable to you and that the

matter may thus be disposed of".

2. I replied by telegram on the 12th of

August, "Hinister for Foreign Affairs of Nationalist

Government should be requested to furnish

information concerning Lu Chih-ytin, and should be reminded, in terms of paragraph 6 of my despatch to

you, dated the 28th of June, that the post of

Superintendent of the Chinese Telegraph Office in

Hong Kong must be kept entirely clear from politics

&c.,
