In reply to Mr. .D. Ellis' letter of the th instant, No.62864/29, I am directed by the Board of Customs and Excise to state, for the information of Lord Passfield, that the law governing the duties on hydrocarbon oils is contained in Sections 2 and 3 of the Finance Act, 1928, and that the relative Regulations are Statutory Rules and Orders, 1928, No.633, dated 10th August, 1928.
Excise Duty. Notice No.166A was issued to traders and the instructions to the Officers of this Department were contained in General Orders os.5371928, and 4171928.
Customs Duty A Public Notice was issued and the original instructions to the officers of the Department were contained in General Order No. 28/1928 which was subsequently amended and issued as General Order 0.66/1928. The only relative Notices now extant are No.177 dealing with the repayment of duty in respect of oils used on fishing boats, and No.179, dealing with bonded warehouses and refineries. A further notice dealing with the method of testing oils has also been prepared.
Two copies of each of the Notices and Orders issued by this Department and referred to above are enclosed for transmission to the Governor of long Yong.
