Mr.Henderson would like to convey a message
by telegram to Mr.Maze that the draft agreement with the
modification in Article V suggested by the Chinese
Government is likely to prove acceptable to His Majesty's
Government. He would be glad therefore if Lord Passfield
would be good enough to communicate the views contained
in the foregoing paragraph by telegram to Sir C.Clementi
with a view to ascertaining whether the Government of
Hongkong are prepared to agree to the modification in
question.
6. I am to transmit, to be laid before Lord Passfield,
the accompanying copy of a telegram which is being sent to
Sir M.Lampson informing him of this correspondence and
inviting his observations.
7.
Copies of this letter are being sent to the
Board of Trade and the Admiralty.
