from this Department of the 26th of July

last, relative to an 'alleged case of

purchase of and cruelty to a Mui Tsai in

Hong Kong, and to inform you that a

despatch has been received from the

Governor of Hong xong stating that the

report, published in the "Daily Mail"

of the 8th of July, is in the main

correct, a Chinese woman being

convicted and fined $25 for breach of

Section 4 of the Female Domestic Service

Ordinance, 1923, by unlawfully taking

into her employment a Mui Tsai aged 14.

This was the first prosecution under

that Section of the Ordinance. Among
