It was one of these children, a youth 15

years of age, named Wong King-yung, who was charg- aled before the Court with ill-treat-

ing the girl.

The excuse given for a severe beating which was inflicted on her with the handle of a feather dus- ter, was that she had either mis-

FORTY DEPORTED.

Kidnappers of Children Driven from Colony.

THE LATEST CASE.

About 40 Chinese, men and wo- men, who have been arrested as a result of the police campaign against kidnappers are being de- ported by the authorities as a "gradual measure” against the ac- tivities of such people. It is un- derstood that the case of each in- dividual was carefully gone into and that each was found to be connected with gangs of kidnap- pers whose activities have given the authorities much trouble of late.

The latest case of kidnapping is that in which a woman came to the Colony with three children, one a boy. The latter suddenly dis- appeared with a woman who offer- ed her services as a "guide." All efforts to find the boy have failed so far.
