The claim for demurrage on wagons is based on Clause 7 D of paragraph 7 of Schedule C of the Working Agreement which reads as follows:-
"For detention of every wagon over the above mentioned hours a charge of $3.00 for each four wheeled wagon and $5.00 for each eight wheeled wagon shall be paid for each day or part of a day in excess of the
above mentioned hours".

The disturbances in
the prospects of the Railway.
Canton and Kwang Tung Province, which began in January 1923, continued throughout the whole of the year.
An attempt was made on September 1st to resume the running of the Slow Through Trains, but this was discontinued after 12 days.
The receipts under Through and Joint Sectional Traffic for the year amounted to only $1,922.01, as compared with $153,447.25 for the previous year, and $500,814.90 for 1922, the last year during which traffic
was normal.

The year 1925 proved an unfortunate one for the Railway directly attributable to the conditions obtaining in the Kwang Tung province. The Through and Joint Sectional Traffic being suspended throughout the year with the exception of 166 Slow Through trains. The Through Slow Service suspended in 1924 was resumed on March 17.
