Under and by virtue of the authority conferred upon

me by Section 17, of the Animal Contagious Diseases Act, Chapter 75, R.S.C. 1927, I do hereby order that Ministerial Order under date the twenty-eighth day of October, One thous- and nine hundred and twentyfour, is hereby cancelled as from May thirtyfirst, One thousand nine hundred and twenty eight, and the following shall apply from June first, One thousand nine hundred and twenty eight thereafter:-

The importation or introduction into Canada of merchandise packed in hay, straw, or any other raw product of the soil, is prohibited from all countries except the

United States of America, New Zealand and the union of South

Africa, unless:-

Such merchandise is accompanied by a certificate signed by a properly qualified and authorised government veterinary of ficer of the country of origin to the effect that the packing has actually been effectively disinfected by being placed loosely in an airtight compartment, the temperature of which was maintained at not less than 65° ( 19° C ), and spraying over and into the packing ten fluid ounces of formaldehyde solution ( containing not less than 37% formaldehyde by weight) for each 1000 cubic feet of space in the compartment which was immediately closed, and kept closed for not less than eight hours.

Such shipments have been disinfected at a fumigat- ion station maintained by this Department in Canada at a cost to the shipper, or importer, of fifty cents per package of one hundred pounds, or under, or ten cubic feet or under, and one dollar per package over one hundred pounds in weight,

or over ten cubic feet.

Properly qualified and authorised veterinarians are those whose names have been forwarded to the Veterinary
