Office of the
DEPUTY MINISTER.
Dear Sir,
17
Department of Agriculture,
Cttawa, March 30, 1925.
I have your letter of the 19th inst.,
forwarding the specimen signatures of the Assistant Colonial
Veterinary Surgeon. I took up this matter with the Veterin-
ary Director General of this Department, and in his reply
he says:
"In reply I may say that I am somewhat at a loss
to understand why these signatures have been forwarded,
unless it be that the Colonial Veterinary Surgeon, whose
certificates could not be depended upon and in consequen-
ce of which we notified the Colonial Secretary we would
not accept any further shipments of products and
certificates bearing his signature, wishes us to accept
the signature of his Assistant.
If my interpretation is correct I would like sane
further assurance that the full requirements of The Meat
and Canned Foods Act regarding the requirements of the
certificates will be carried out as I may say I am not particularly impressed with the manner in which our requirements have been observed and could not accede to his request unless specific assurance is given that the
Assistant's signature would be more reliable than that
of his principal."
I should be obliged if you will let me hear
from you further in regard to this matter.
Yours very truly,
(Sd.) J. H. Grisdale,
Deputy Minister.
The Colonial Secretary,
Hong Kong, China.
