I certify that adequate and timely notification

was made of the intentions of the parties concerned to apply

to the Legislative Council of Hong Kong for an Ordinance

styled "An Ordinance to extend for a further period the

powers granted by the Mercantile Bank Note Issue Ordinance,

1911, to the Mercantile Bank of India, Limited, to make,

issue, re-issue and circulate notes in the Colony" before

the same was brought into Legislative Council. Such

notifications were made in the following manner.

Notice of the intention of the parties to apply

for the said Ordinance was advertised in an issue of the

Hong Kong Government Gazette of the 5th July, 1929, in three

issues each of two English newspapers circulating in the

Colony, namely the South China Morning Post and the Hong

Kong Daily Press for the period of the 9th to the 11th July,

1929; and in two issues of a Chinese newspaper circulating

in the Colony, namely the Kung Sheung Yat Po for the period

of the 9th to the 10th July, 1929.

A draft of the proposed said Ordinance was further

published in two issues of the Government Gazette on the 5th

and 12th July, 1929.
