I am directed by the Lords Commissioners of
His Majesty's Treasury to refer to Sir G. Grindle's letter
(23)
of the 20th September 1927 (30099/27) and to enclose
herewith a copy of a letter from the Chartered Bank of
India, Australia and China stating that they have
authorised their manager at Hong Kong to increase his
Note Issue up to $25,000,000 which, together with the
$3,000,000 at present allotted to North China etc., makes
a total of $28,000,000 allocated at present against the
$30,000,000 authorized.
My Lords will be glad to be informed whether
Lord Passfield has any objection to, or comments on, this
increase which for Their part They would be prepared to
approve.
A similar letter is being sent to the Foreign
Office.
