Sir,
with reference to the case of the firing upon and sinking
of the s.8. "Irone" of the China Merchants Steam Navigation
Company by the British submarine 14, this Ministry had the honour
on the görd. January to send to Your Excellency a statement of
the damages, and request you to give it your earnest accention
and take steps in the first instance to settle the uestion of
compensation.
A reply was received from Your xcellency stating that the
Note had been forwarded to your Foreign Office, since when three
months have elapsed and no reply has yet been received.
I now have the honour to request the favour of an early
reply.
