brought to the notice of the Hong Kong Government.

After further investigation the Governor was advised

that no doubt the traffic in childrenstill persisted,

being the custom of the country and which it would

take a long time to alter, but that it remained to

be proved that the Hong Kong Government's efforts

were not making headway against the abuses of the

custom. No further action was taken by the

Governor.

In October 1928 the Anti-Mui Tsai Society held

Paunched their annual meeting and lodged a general attack

on the Mui Tsai system in Hong Kong. It was the

proceedings of this meeting which supplied Mr.Harris

with the material for his letter to the "Manchester

Guardian" at the beginning of this year. This

letter has been reprinted and widely circulated

in this country. A copy is attached (appendix C).
