With reference to paragraph 6 of
Mr. Southorn's despatch No.408 of the 27th of August,
1928, regarding the provision of accommodation for
Civil Aviation at the Kai Tak Aerodrome, I have
2.
the honour to forward a copy of a report on this
subject by the Director of Public Works, together
with plans in duplicate of a proposed hangar.
A hangar of 250 feet is far in excess
of the requirements of Civil Aviation so far as can be
seen at present. But on a recent visit to the
Aerodrome with the Senior Officers of the Royal
Air Force on this station, my attention was drawn to
the very doubtful security against typhoons and
gales, afforded to the Royal Air Force machines by
the temporary sheds in which they are now housed.
Gales of this type may visit Hong Kong at any time between July and October, and are known at other times,
and any one might quite conceivably destroy the whole
Royal Air Force fleet now housed in the aerodrome.
THE RIGHT HONOURABLE
LIEUTENANT COLONEL L.C.M.S. AMERY, M.P.,
