The machines are mostly French, but these are of

such old design, and arrived in such a dreadful condition

that they are of little interest.

In October (1888) a Ryan Monoplane, land plane,

arrived from America and this machine has proved itself to

he a really sound commercial passenger and mail carrier. According to present advices another yan should arrive in

Canton on the 20th inat, this will be fitted with floats

and will be used as a seaplane on the provinces' rivers.

General Chan Ming Shu through Mr. (General 7) Lo

Kwan has obtained two French Ereguet machines, and these

have arrived at Fakhai and are going to be put into ser-

vise for transporting pɛasengers and mails between Hoihow

and rakhoi.

Mr. Lo Kwan was recently in Hong Kong when the

writer interviewed him, and gathered that the machines

might be used for the transport of opium from Yunan

es to avoid the duties exacted when passing through

(wangsi. This was not actually stated to be so, but

from the conversation this was the impression gained.

Kwangsi.

At the present time there is no Aviation in

the province of Kwangsi, but steps are being taken to

establish an Aviation Bureau ə It is understood that there
