Before he left I asked whether he was now in any form
employed by the Canton Government (see Canton telegram
To. 98 of October 27th, 1928) and he stated that the proposal
had entirely dropped, and that he was in no sense in
Chinese employ.
We left it that he will write in the next day or two
and tell us precisely what assistance he wants.
