With reference to the attached I submit the
following report:-
The ship is a Chinese owned snip flying the Chinese
Flag, Canton is the port of registry, she is of 1044 net
tonnage and is owned by the Yong Hang Hing Steam Ship
Company, No.58A, Bonham Strand, Test. Ir. Nils Harring of
Sweden is the master and only European employed on board,
there are two Chinese deck officers and three Chinese engine
room officers, the crew comprises 44 Chinese which includes
the Compradore Staff.
The ship is on the Hong Kong Saigon run with no intermediate ports. On the outway voyage there is very
little cargo aboard the ship, on the inward voyage she is
generally full with rice. She has no passenger licence but is allowed to carry twelve passengers, she is not searched
by Police at Hong Kong. The Chinese deck and engine room
officers are not certified "Ocean going" navigators and
engineers but have certificates issued by the Hong Kong
Harbour Department for vessels under 60 tons.
At about 22.00 hours on the 10th December, 1928,
the ship left Hong Kong for Saigon with a cargo of about
200 tons comprising flour, fruit and vegetables. There was 11 passengers on board, at about 05.00 hours on the 11th
December when the ship was in a position Long: E.115.47
