I have the honour to acknowledge receipt

of your letter No.62 (6/737) of the 2nd October

1928, regarding the seizure of the British Motor-

vessel "Wing Bung" (

} by the Chinese

authorities on account of alleged muggling of opium

on the West River, and to inform you that every

care will be taken to have strict enquiries made about those who apply for facilities to engage in the shipping trade in question, and to comply with requests from His Majesty's Consul-General, Canton,

for information in such cases.

I am at present in communication with His

Majesty's Consul-General, Canton, as to the

possibility of taking action in Hong Kong in

connection with the "Wing Hang" case.
