Much of the uncertainty which is felt as to

the future political situation is due to speculation regarding the possible return to China of Mr. Wong Ts'ing-wai and his associates. Mr. Wong is, it is believed, still in France awaiting the preparation of the ground for his reappearance. His reputation as the spiritual heir of Dr. Sun Yat-sen, (whose famous will he is thought to have written) and as a former head of the Central Executive Committee of

the Kuomintang, will hardly permit him to reappear in any minor role; and it is questionable whether his henchmen possess now the influence necessary to secure for him the centre of the stage. moment his most active supporter is Mr. Chan Kung-pok, whose presence in Hong Kong has been rumoured, and who may perhaps be now on his way to this Colony.

The group of which Mr. Wong Tsing-wai is the head is known to the Chinese as the Left Wing of the Kuomintang. In the early years of the Nationalist

Movement it occupied a very prominent position,

largely owing to the enthusiasm with which it adopted the cause of Communism. When that doctrine became

discredited in China, the members of the Left Wing tried with little success to dissociate themselves from communism; for, though Mr. Wong Tsing-wai

escaped with no worse than a vote of censure,

Mr, Chan Kung-pok and Mr. Kom Nai-kwong were actually

expelled
