In continuation of my secret despatches

of the Nth January and the lat Jebruary, I have the

honour to inform you that on the 22nd January 1929,

Ir.Liang Shih-yi, an ex-premier of China, calle to

visit me accompanied by Sir Chou-son Chow, the Senior

Chinese Member of the Hong Kong Legislative Council.

Je had a conversation à trois in Cantonese which

lasted about an hour and a half and I enclose a

memorandum subsequently dictated by Ir. Liang to

Dr. R.. Kotewall, the Second Chinese Member of the

Hong Kong Legislative Council, giving succinctly the

gist of our conversation. You will observe that

Fr. Jiang's view of the political situation in China

is very similar to that presented to you in my secret despatch of the 15th January and derived from

other Chinese sources.

2. Chu and ao referred to in r. Liang's

memorandum es commanders of communistic troops are knowm in Cantonese as Chu Tak and To Chak-tung.
