On landing there they have to undergo a physical
examination, to provide security, and to go through
all sorts of trouble under penalty. But the Japanese, even if they are scoundrels and prostitutes, are allowed to land at liberty. Indeed the Chinese have been seriously insulted. They have treated Chinese teachers, journalists and Kuomintang members
as no better than labourers. All this is due to the
fact that we are not so powerful as we have been in
the past.
Now I come to the troops. I am afraid that our existing troops do not compare favourably with those of 20 years ago, and are not educated. we should be strong-handed diplomatically, we must improve ourselves.
