Dear General Chan Ming-shu,

Many thanks for your letter of the 21st March.

It is a great pleasure to me to know that you have made so rapid a recovery, and that you are now able to attend to correspondence and to sign your name. I hope you and your wife will soon be restored to complete health.

When you are able to leave the hospital I hope that you and Mrs. Chan will come and have lunch with me before you return to your home.

I see, with deep regret, that civil war has again broken out in central China, and I hope very

much that it may not extend to the Kwangtung province.

With best wishes,

Yours sincerely,

(Sd.) C. Clementi.

General Chan Ming-shu,

Government Civil Hospital.
