THE RIGHT HONOURABLE
Sir,
In continuation of my Secret Despatch
dated 21st March, I have the honour to inform you
that Marshal Li Chai-sum is still detained as a
prisoner at Nanking by Marshal Chiang Kai-shek, and
that civil war has now begun between the Nanking
group and the Kwangsi group of the Nationalist
party. This morning a telegram was received by
a prominent Chinese in Hong Kong stating that
Marshal Li Chai-sum had been shot: but I have as
yet been unable to obtain confirmation of this news
and I hope it may not be true.
2.
General Chan Ming-shu is still a patient
in the Government Civil Hospital, where he is likely
to remain for a few more weeks until his fractured
thigh has been mended. I enclose copies of
letters exchanged between him and me.
3.
General Ch'an Kwing-ming (Ch'en Chiung-ming)
is at present in Hong Kong, having returned from
Manchuria,
LIEUTENANT COLONEL L.C.M.S. AMERY, M.P.,
&c.,
