With reference to paragrs th 2 of your
despatch No.230 of 10th July, 1928, regarding the reduction of the balance of the "nallocated Stores of the Railway to the approved Standard Stock of $100,000, I have the honour to inform you that at the end of 1927 the value of the Stock was $164,455.91 inclusive of $45,115.57 for the rails landed from the 3.5. "Tokuyama Maru" in lv18 to which reference is made in your despatch Hong Kong No.295 of 8th September, 1926. The rate at which these reils were valued viz., $113.95 per ton has, with the approval of the Finance Committee of the Legislative Council, been written down to $40 per ton and a special vote for $27,981.00 has been taken to cover the depreciation. October, 1928).
The Standard Stock has thus been reduced to
the approved figure of $150,000 inclusive of the value of
the rails.
