point out that the shrinkage in the purchasing power
of the dollar locally affects as much the subordinate
officers if not more because of their disproportion-
ately smaller salaries
as those paid in sterling
notwithstanding the fact that sterling salaried officers
are paid at the rate of $12 to the sterling.
We beg also to point out that locally engaged officers
on sterling basis (other than officers of the Junior
Clerical Service) such as those in the Education
Department have been reckoned as officers to be
benefited by the recent concession of Exchange Allowances.
This obviously points to the fact that Government
has recognized that officers, though locally engaged,
must be adequately paid.

In conclusion, we have the honour humbly
to request that our petition may once more receive
the careful and favourable consideration of His Excellency
the Officer Administering the Government and that
copies of this letter be forwarded to the Salaries
Commission recently appointed and to the Right
Honourable the Secretary of State for the Colonies
respectively.
