MR. D. F. DAVIES, Scholar of Jesus College, Oxford,

came into residence in Michaelmas Term 1924. By way of

preparation for the Firal Honour School of Physics he came

to me as a pupil in Mathematics. He took Honour Moderations

in that subject at the end of his first year, and, although he had on coming up much less than the normal equipment of those taking this examination, obtained a very comfortable

Second Class. I have no doubt that he would have obtained

First Class Honours had he been able to give a second year to the subject.

Thereafter I was responsible for the general super-

vision of his studies and behaviour. of his progress in

Physics, Mr. Bolton King, who taught hi, will bear evidence.

For my own part I must add that his character and conduct

have been excellent in every way. I found him industrious,

attentive and conscientious, and I have no doubt that he will

strive his utmost to carry out whatever duties may be entrusted

to him, that he will work smoothly with his colleagues, and

that all he does will be performed with the care which marked

his work with me.
