The University of Liverpool
The Chemical Laboratories,
Brownlow St.,
Liverpool.
December 21st. 1922.
I am very glad to write a few lines in favour of Mr R.
Ashton Hill who is seeking a post.
Mr. Hill entered this University in 1918, and has spent
four years here, specialising in Physical and Organic Chemistry.
He obtained his B.Sc. Degree with Honours in Chemistry in June
1921. During the past session he carried out research work under
Professor Lewis in the Physical Chemistry Laboratories and
submitted a thesis on "
Photochemical Decomposition of Sulphur-
Di-oxide Gas at Different Wave-Length Regions in the Ultra-violet"
This work gained for him the M.Sc. Degree this year.
My colleagues and I formed a very high opinion of his
work during these years, and recognised in him a man of considerable
ability. He has a thoroughly sound knowledge of his subjects
and the experience he has gained in his research work will be of
great value to him since it has broadened his horizon and taught
him the power of co-ordinated thought and of solving new and
unexpected difficulties.
