Dr. Herklots would be, I think, extremely suitable for the

He was post of Reader in Biology at the University of Hong Kong. a student in this department from 1920 to 1924, when he obtained

First-Class Honours in Botany. He has, also, very good

qualifications in Zoology which he took as a principal subject for three years in this University and with which he has kept in

touch since obtaining his degree. From 1924-26, he did two

years post-graduate research at the University of Cambridge, work

on which he has quite recently obtained his Ph.D. I had no

hesitation in appointing him a member of my staff in October and

I have been very satisfied with his work since he joined me ́in

that capacity. He is an extremely clear lecturer, has good

discipline, and a very good influence over students. He has

taken complete charge of one of the Introductory classes during

part of each session, and has also taken complete charge of one

section of a large medical class. Although a comparatively

young man, he is one of the men singled out for special tutorial

duties in connection with a new scheme of tutors which has just

been established at this University, which is an indication that

his qualities in relation to students are appreciated outside the

Department.
