Appointment of a Lecturer and Tutor in English.
1. A Lecturer and Tutor in English is required for the University of Hong Kong, to commence duty on 15th September next. Candidates must be unmarried, layman and not connected with any missionary society and they should not be more than 30 years old. They must be graduates, preferably in honours and
Ability with experience of teaching, especially of English.
to play games, particularly cricket, and willingness to associate with the students in their games, is desirable.

The Lecturer will be required to give explanatory
lectures on English books and to give tutorial instruction in the English language. Many students on joining the University have a poor knowledge of English, and the Lecturer will be required to give these students individual instruction of an
intensive nature.
3. The appointments will be, in the first instance, for three years, under an agreement providing for a free first- class P. & 0. passage to Hong Kong, and back at the end of the term of appointment. Any misconduct during that term may, however, result in summary dismissal, with forfeiture of the
right to a return passage.
4. Salary will be at the rate of £450 per annum, rising
by two annual increments of £20 to £490 in the 3rd year. Thereafter, if the Lecturer continues in the service of the
University, he will be entitled to three further annual
increments of £20, and thereafter to two further annual
increments of £25, giving a maximum annual salary of £600.
