clearly understood that in this matter he is merely
acting on behalf of the Council of the University.
Free quarters are provided or an allowance in lieu
thereof. Your sclery will be subject to a deduction
of 5 per cent in respect of aperamustion. You will
not be entitled to private practice without the
authorization of the Council of the University.
2. It is to be understood that your engagement
is in the first instanco for not more than three
years from the date of your arrival in Hong Kong, and
that if it is established to the satisfaction of the
Council of the University that you are not qualified
for efficient service there, they will have power to
cancel your appointment at any time within the said
three years without giving you my further compensa-
tion then a free passage to England, which will only
be rented if they are sutisfied that you live by
your good conduct deserved it. If the appointment is
terminated at the end of the said three years you
will be given a free prasage to Angland with ful
salary on the homeward voyage. (the duration of which
