Scholarship money owing to the University,

and this Ministry is addressing them a

communication urging them to do so

I Have now received a communication from the

Government of Hongkong stating that there is still a

sum of $93.105.50 outstanding due to the University,

enclosing a statement, and asking that the authorities

concerned may be urged to settle this debt at an early

date.

The Hongkong University state that even after

the contributions from the different Chinese author-

ities coased to be paid the scholars were treated in

all respects as before and were granted free board,

books and even pocket money to enable them to complete

their courses, and they feel sure that the goodwill

and confidence thus shown will not have been misplaced.

I have the honour to transmit to Your Excellency

herewith copy of the statement showing the amounts

que and to request that you will be so good as to arge

the departments concerned to make arrangements to pay

the amount outstanding at an early date.
