with reference to the question of sums

due to the University of Hongkong from the Ministry of "ducation, my predeceusor had the honour on the

5th March 1925 to write to the wai Chiao u asking that this matter might again be brought to the

notice of that inistry with a view to arrangements being made for payment of the outstanding amount

at an early date and on the 27th March, 1925, the

following reply was received from the Wai Chiao Fu:-

"I have the honour to refer to your letter of March 5th requesting that the Ministry of Mduca- tion might be pressed to pay the sum owing from them to the University of Hongkong, and to the reply returned on March 11th informing you that the mattor had been reformed by this Ministry to the Ministry of Education for action. The follow-

ing reply has now been received from the latter

Ministry.

The funds for the hongkong University Scholarships are paid out of this Ministry's Overseas Study account, which is considerably

in arrear, no remittances having been received

from the Ministry of Finance for a long time.

A letter had already been received from the

University stating that, up to August, 1924
