would cover the additional cost of the salaries of

officers of the Colonial Secretary's Office whose

promotion to higher classes is now recommended.

These sums would be chargeable to the

Junior Clerical Service vote, and as it has been

found necessary to increase the establishment of

clerks in certain other Departments also a

supplementary vote will probably be required as

savings may not suffice to meet the adĉitional

charges.

Application for supplementary supply will

be made as soon as the necessity is established and

the approximate total requirements for the year

ascertained.

The members of the Finance Committee of the

Legislative Council have been consulted and they unanimously concur in these proposals; and, if you approve, I shall be glad if I may have a reply by

telegram.
