I am directed to forward, for the information of
the Secretary of State, a copy of the papers noted in the
margin, relating to the application of one Georg Ludvig Rode,
a Norwegian subject by

No.S.55/109-A, aated the 11th January 1928, and enclosures.
birth, for the grant of a
certificate of naturalization under the British Nationality
and Status of Aliens Act, 1914. It will be seen from Mr. Rode's
application that he has been serving as an Engineer on board
British steamers and steamers owned by British subjects for
the last twenty five years and that he has resided in British
India during the last three years whenever he was not on
service at sea. His residence on shore within His Majesty's
dominions does not however amount to the necessary aggregate
of four years within the 8 years preceding the application,
nor has he resided on shore either within the United Kingdom
or within British India for the year immediately preceding
the application. He is therefore not qualified to receive
acertificate of naturalisation either under section 2 or
under section 8 of the British Nationality & Status of Aliens
Act, 1914, unless periods of service on board a British ship
