Postmaster General and the Radio Corportion of the Philippine
Islands on the subject of the wireless tariff between Hong
Kong and Manila.

The Postmaster General usually requests
advice on departmental questions of this kind from the Postmaster General, London, direct, but the issues involved
in determining radio rates are so complex and have recently obtained so much publicity that I have decided in this instance to refer to you for an indication of policy.

The Hong Kong-Manila Radio Service was established on the 23rd July, 1927, and the tariff was fixed at 30 cents a word. The corresponding cable rate was 55 cents a word via the Eastern Extension Cable Company. The cable rate was reduced to 3C cen is a word as from 1st January, 1928, and as a result the Cable Company has attracted back to itself a considerable share of the lost traffic.
