immediate necessity of fulfilling our side of the arrangements made with the Canton Government which was erecting a short wave station near Shameen specially for Hong Kong traffic, indents covering certain of the items mentioned on pages 6 and 7 of Mr. King's report involving a expenditure of £4,091.17. 3d have been forwarded to the Crown Agents.

The Canton Station was opened on 11th June and in four days the number of messages exchanged rose from 2 to 71 and a daily average of 60 has since been maintained, representing the bulk of the traffic between this Colony and Canton.

For this traffic a makeshift installation at Cape D'Aguilar Station was employed, but it was found that the geographical position of D'Aguilar was not suitable for short wave transmission owing to high hills on the northern side and the plant was removed to "The Eyrie", a Government house on the Peak which was this year set aside for an experimental Wireless station.
