Miss M. Riley, B.A. was appointed to this school
last September as an Assistant Mistress, and since last May has had full control of the Commercial subjects.
She is a woman who is singularly gifted in intelligence, culture and personality. She is a very valuable member of my Staff and at the same time she impresses me as one who has not yet reached the limit of her powers, which are considerable, but will develop more fully with greater opportunities.
Miss Riley's outstanding characteristic is her quiet, purpose efficiency. She is a real force in the School and the most unobtrusive and effective member. She has fitted into unusual and difficult conditions, and in a very short time has created a useful and responsible sphere of work for herself. I have learned to rely on her.
She had to undertake without previous experience a year's experiment in teaching Typewriting on modern lines. The results were extraordinarily successful. Miss Riley created interest and enthusiasm and made a dull, mechanical subject vital and enjoyable to girls of 14 years and upwards. I cannot with any fairness decide how much of the success is due to the method and how much to Miss Riley's adaptability, resource and skill.

Her loss would be felt severely by the School and but I understand Miss Riley has strong personal reasons for wishing to teach in Hong-Kong. justice to what she is doing here, I cannot too warmly recommend her for the post she seeks.
