shares of many Companies already carrying on business in
such colonies; that accordingly it was provided that the
colonial register might only be kept in colony in which
the Company keeping it "transɛcts business"; and that a
similer and even more strongly worded condition ms 180
made essential under the provisions of the Hongkong
Ordinance. it ip pears clear that the legislature never
contemplated the keeping by a Colapemy of a colonial register
(or of a local rekister in the case of hongkong) in a plxe
where such Company does not carry on ny part of its business.
Nor was it ever the intention of the legislature that the
colonial register or local register should be used 98 a meɛns for introducing the shares of a Company on the arkets of such
a place; and that, it would seem clear, is the only object
which the Petitioners in this rtter have in view.
