(1) The book which should have contained six hundred

(2) The booćk which should have contained six hundred

cheques series 6 238601 to 239200 from which cheques Nos.

6 239171 to 239200 were missing.
The first of these books was the received from the
bank on the 2nd November, sent for printing at the Gaol
on 4th November, received back from the Gaol on the 8th
November and taken into use on the 30th November.
The second of these books was received from the bank
on the 2nd December, sent for printing at the Gaol on
the same day, received back from the Gaol on the 6th.
December and taken into use on the 20th December.
From each book thirty cheques were missing as
above stated. There are three cheques to each page and
the books are bound with ten pages in each fold. Anyone
desiring to make a neet job of removing a number of
cheques would naturaly take a complete fold of ten pages.
i.e. 30 cheques.
To remove such a fold from the books has been found
to be only a matter of ten minutes or so.
There can be little doubt that the books came

complete from the bank the bank holds clear receipts
and the three cheques utilized for the fraud appeared to
have had the requisite wording stamped on them at the
Gaol.
The Gaol chit book again gives a clear receipt
by the Treasury for the full number of cheques. This is
of little value as showing that the books were in fact
on arrival at the Treasury, for the officer who signed
for them did not examine them and they were not examined
by Mr. Tsang On Wing when they were handed over to him.
