I am directed by Secretary Sir Austen Chamberlain to

state that he has been informed by the Anglo-French China

Corporation Limited that negotiations are in progress for a

loan from Hongkong to the Canton provincial government.

2. The Corporation allege that the securities for this

loan include certain public utilities which are already

provisionally pledged to them. The Secretary of State

will therefore be glad to be informed whether r.

Secretary Amery has any knowledge of the reported loan

negotiations.
