I have laid before the Lords Commissioners

of His Majesty's Treasury Sir G. Grindle's letter of the 22nd ultimo (52821/28) transmitting copy of a

despatch from the Governor of Hong Kong regarding the

security for the ordinary note issue of the Hong Kong

and Shanghai Banking Corporation.

In reply I am to request you to inform

Mr.Secretary Amery that My Lords would prefer that the $1,850,000 Straits Settlements 51% War Loan 1918-28,

which falls due on 20th July next, should be replaced

by a Trustee Security.

I am to add that My Lords would be glad to

be consulted in future before the approval of the

Secretary of State is given to any non-Trustee

Security, even where (as in the case of the Straits
