Dear Green,

TREASURY CHAMBERS,
WHITEHALL, S.W. 1.
26th June, 1928.
Your official letter of the 8th May

(52801/28) about the new Hong Kong and Shanghai Banking
Corporation Ordinance.
I agree generally in the views expressed in
the letter from the Board of Trade to your Department
of the 16th instant, a copy of which was sent to us.
I am however writing semi-officially because
Flux has suggested, and the proposal seems to me a
good one, that progress, which is at present exceedingly
slow, might be helped if some representative of the
Bank in London such as Sir Charles Addis were invited
to discuss the matter orally. The object of the
amendments suggested in the Governor of Hong Kong's
telegram of 24th April is obscure to me, and the fact
that this telegram apparently crossed your despatch
of 4th April has created rather a tangle which might
most easily be cleared up by verbal discussions.

Colonial Office.
