Note.
We are unable to agree to the enforced acquisition of our or our sub-Contractors plant. Should the Government wish to take over plant items, the transfer and price should be arranged in the usual way.
We do not agree to forego the right to claim for 1 s or profit.
We do not understand the intention of this clause.
We do not agree to the proposed percentage, We suggest that a daywork schedule shall be drawn up and agreed.
We suggest that the sum to be paid should be ascertained and agreed between the Engineer and
the Contractor.
The conditions of this clause shall not apply until the Engineer and Contræ tørs have failed to come to terms.
We cannot agree to accept extension of time alone as compensation in all inst ances.
This clause appears to render C1.84 inoperative.
With regard to the suggestion that one 18" pipeline
may be laid in the first instance, we have, in the short time
at our disposal, only have been able to prepare an approximate
estimate of the cost.
We estimate that our original offer of £200,000 can
bereduced by £33,000 and that the work can be completed in five
months from the date on which it is agreed that constructional
operations shall be put in hand on the site.
Should we be called upon to provide and lay one
18" pipe under our original No.2 proposal, we estimate that the
cost would be £109,000 plus a fixed fee of £23,000.
Yours faithfully,
for SIR V.G.ARMSTRONG WHITWORTH & CO.LTD.
ARTHUR WHITLEY.
