The minutes of the previous meeting of the Council were confirmed.
WATER SHORTAGE.
H.E. THE OFFICER ADMINISTERING THE GOVERNMENT said-Honourable Members of the Legislative Council,-The Govern- ment is greatly concerned at the hardships caused by the water shortage now being experienced by the citizens of Victoria, especially in the western end of the City, which have been pressed on my attention by the Honourable. the Second Chinese Member. This shortage is caused by an increase in consumption, coupled with a peculiarly uneven distribution of an otherwise plentiful rainfall, which has resulted in Pokfulam reservoir catchment receiving only about half the rainfall received by the Tytam catchment areas this year. It is the Pokfulam reservoir on which the Government depends to supplement the other- wise inadequate supply of water from Tytam to the western end of the City, and this reservoir is now seriously depleted.
