SHINE FOR THE MONTH.
HIGH TEMPERATURES
RECORDED.
July weather was notable for several records. Its rainfall, or rather lack of it, has already been noted, having been 4.78 inches compared with 4.57 inches in 1889, the lowest fall on record for the period.
The amount of sunshine was the greatest on record being 5.7 hours in excess of the previous record in July 1916. The total was 282.8 compared with an average of 212.4 and a minimum of 130.6. 12.1 hours were recorded on the 5th, 12th and 25th while there were 14 other days with more than ten hours of sunshine. The percentage of cloudiness was 53.
The mean of the daily maximum temperatures, 88.5deg., was the highest on record, except in 1889 when it was 88.7deg. The mean temperature for the month, 83.5deg. was also the highest on record, except in 1880 when it was 83.6deg. The mean of the daily minimum temperatures, 79.9deg., was the same as the previous highest on record, which also occurred in
1889.
The maximum temperature was 92.6 on the 30th, but the highest mean temperature was 86.4 on the 26th. For the last eight days of the month a maximum temperature of over 90 was recorded.
During this time there was very little wind the mean velocity being below 5.5.
The 14th and 15th were windy days with mean velocities of 35 m.p.h. and 32.7 m.p.h. with a maximum squall of 76 m.p.h. 11.20 p.m. on the 14th.
The mean velocity was 8.6 com- pared with a normal of 11.0.
